When relentless rains began on July 13, 2024, no one could have imagined the devastation to come. Within hours, the once-vibrant communities of Pagalungan, Dungguan, and Datu Montawal were underwater. Families fled to safety, setting up makeshift tents along the highway as schools, health centers, and even the municipal hall flooded within 24 hours.
In this time of crisis, the Franciscan Friars, led by Fr. Benjamin Tigullo Jr., OFM, responded with compassion and urgency. Through the Franciscan Mission Station (FMS) and with the support of Franciscan Health Care Crossing Borders Inc. (FHCCBI) and tireless volunteers, a two-day relief mission brought aid to 298 families.
Relief packages—filled with rice, powdered milk, coffee, sugar, canned goods, vitamins, and medicines—were distributed to ease the immediate burden on families. Beyond emergency relief, this mission was an act of solidarity, a reminder to those affected that they are not alone.
The Friars’ unwavering commitment to compassion, paired with the community’s resilience, served as a powerful witness to hope rising even in the darkest of times.
