In Chile, the Recoleta Franciscan friary serves as a beacon of hope and support for the homeless, migrants, and vulnerable elderly populations. The site functions as a center for prayer, meditation, and various social services, including the Fray Andresito Solidarity Kitchen.
Under the stewardship of Fray Andresito and Fr. Vicente Crespo, the Solidarity Kitchen provides daily meals to approximately 150 to 170 individuals—serving over 35,000 each year. Those being served often struggle with alcohol and drugs, HIV, and psychological illnesses.
The Fray Andresito Solidarity Kitchen is part of a broader mission to offer both material and spiritual support. Since 2000, the kitchen has undergone significant improvements, with the construction of new facilities and the installation of a new gutter and rainwater evacuation system to enhance the structural integrity of the building.
Despite structural, political, and other challenges, the dining facility continues to serve 800 people each week.
