Year-End Appeal: Sponsor Uganda’s Poorest Children [25ACC3]

As the year comes to a close, you can still make a meaningful difference in the lives of the poor and suffering. If you are searching for a way to spread the hope of Jesus this holiday season, consider a tax-deductible donation to Franciscan Missions.

With just days left in the year, we’re asking for your help one last time because there are children longing for the gift of education.

In Rwentobo, a town in southern Uganda, the Franciscan Karidaari Seed School is run by our Franciscan missionary friars who care for 42 children living in extreme poverty.

It costs $166 per month to care for one child with tuition-free education, daily meals, and therapy.

Will you help sponsor a student?

Use prosper code 25ACC3.

This is your last chance to make a tax-deductible gift for the year.

Every gift—large or small—moves our mission forward and gives one more student the gift of education.

One student named Alan is proof that your support for education changes lives.

From a young age, Alan longed to attend school, but he was not welcome because he couldn’t walk. Still, he refused to give up. Each morning, he pulled himself along a dirt path for half a mile, crawling on his elbows and knees, just to listen to lessons through the schoolyard fence, hoping for a chance to learn.

Deeply moved by his determination, the friars welcomed him to the Franciscan Karidaari Seed School, where he now receives the education he so desperately longed for. Through your generosity, Alan is the first child with a disability in his community to attend secondary school.

You have already touched Alan’s life with renewed hope and dignity, but there are so many more students like Alan waiting for someone to believe in them.

Will you share your treasure with more children like Alan by sending a special gift today to support our Franciscan missionaries and their work among the poor?

$166 per month will support a child that is longing for an education, a warm meal, and someone to believe in them.

Make a tax-deductible gift before midnight on December 31 to contribute to this worthy cause.

Thank you for your faithful support of Franciscan Missions. You are remembered gratefully in our prayers and Masses. We wish you a healthy and happy New Year!

Rebuild Vietnam After Historic Flooding

Devastating Flooding Has Ravaged Vietnam

Last November, floods of historical proportions washed over Vietnam causing unprecedented and severe damage. Throughout the central region of the country, particularly in the coastal Dong Hoa District of the Phu Yen Province, many villages were completely destroyed.

Thousands of houses were swept away, infrastructure was shattered, and people’s livelihoods were completely disrupted. Villages that rely on agriculture lost everything, from food and seeds to crops and livestock. Dozens of schools were toppled, along with books and learning materials for thousands of students.

The suffering caused by this flooding disaster is not temporary.

Reconstruction Resources Are Scarce

Many of the damaged communities in Dong Hoa are poor, severely traumatized, and slowly trying to rebuild their lives. The shock to the economy, the education system, and the spiritual wellbeing of the people is immense.

Though the floodwaters have receded, this tragedy will continue to affect the community in the months and years to come.

Although the missionaries from the Vietnamese Province of the Order of Friars Minor have made tremendous efforts in relief work, there is still an overwhelming amount of repair to be carried out.

The scale of the damage is immense, and our current emergency relief efforts cannot meet the long-term needs for reconstruction. Without timely humanitarian intervention, the community will face unsafe housing conditions, a lack of employment, and rising school dropout rates.

Building Long-Lasting Pillars of Stability

There is so much to be done, but meeting immediate needs first will help to stabilize the lives of the people.

The current urgent need is to focus on reconstruction through three main pillars:

Providing Shelter

First, building and renovating simple, safe family dwellings will quickly help families regain their housing security and pave the way for a more optimistic future in Dong Hoa. These stable, long-lasting houses will minimize risks when the next natural disaster occurs.

Restoring Livelihoods

The second pillar is livelihood. Residents will receive capital to reinvest in local production and business activities. This will generate independent income, and maintain sustainable livelihoods. Supporting farmers with funding, seedlings, livestock, and essential production tools will help them re-establish agricultural activity.

Supporting Education

Repairing schools and supplying learning materials is essential for the education of the community’s children. With a place to gather and books to learn from, there will be hope that they can return to their studies as soon as possible.

Will You Rebuild Hope?

Every contribution, large or small, is a precious gift that rebuilds hope and ensures a bright future for our brothers and sisters in Central Vietnam.

Thank you for your steadfast support of God’s children around the world. We pray that Jesus pours abundant blessings upon you and your family for your generosity and love.

May God bless you this year,
