Thanks to your steadfast generosity, Franciscan Missions has received news that Misión Santa Clara Boarding School in Jalisco, Mexico has the funds to sustain itself for another six months.

In the summer of 2026, there was fear that by September, funds would have been completely exhausted.

Thanks to your extraordinary generosity, this is not the case!

Located in the beautiful forest of northern Jalisco, Mexico, the Misión Santa Clara Boarding School brings the gift of education to local indigenous children from the Wixárika community. But access to the school is a challenge due to poorly maintained roads and the dangers of organized crime. 

For members of the community, traveling to cities for basic goods is a luxury. Being located 6 to 9 hours from any major city, there are high costs for fuel, vehicle maintenance, and tolls anytime a grocery trip needs to happen. 

Water comes from untreated wells or rivers, electricity is unreliable, and internet access is scarce. In emergencies, locals often turn to Misión Santa Clara for transport or medicine.

Thanks to your generosity, our Franciscan presence has fostered a sense of brotherhood, human values, and Christian principles among the children and their families at Misión Santa Clara.

Your gift has directly benefited the 110 Wixárika children who we serve at the boarding school. 

You have also supported the five friars of our fraternity, five volunteer missionaries, five staff members, and one teacher-in-training. All these administrators have a significant impact on the development and evangelization of these young children through rich education, safe lodging, and warm meals. 

The funds you have generously donated have been used to support many important endeavors for the mission:

  • The mission purchased a 36-cubic-foot commercial refrigerator to keep fruits and vegetables fresh. Previously, items were stored in a wooden cabinet, exposed to heat and flies. The new refrigerator holds up to 14 crates of produce, extending the shelf life of the food and reducing how often expensive trips need to be made to the city stores.
  • Books were purchased to support the academic endeavors of the teachers and students in the second grade and in the preschool program.
  • Many trips were made possible to large cities to purchase and transport food and donations to the mission. Funds were also used to pay wages to the chefs and to buy gas for cooking. Because of this, daily meals were made for 127 people.

Your gift has also benefited the families of our students, as well as the broader Wixárika community, which experiences the ripple effects of our Franciscan and Christian presence.

As we serve this community, there is still a great need for donations so the Franciscan presence can continue at Misión Santa Clara.
