Small Acts, Big Impacts: Serving the Ati Families in the Philippines

The Ati of Panay Island have endured generations of hardship, living in extreme poverty and facing systemic oppression. Many parents struggle to find steady work, often relying on farming that yields only meager returns. Others depend on government assistance, with little hope of breaking the cycle.

In a heartfelt effort to bring care and hope to this underserved community, Franciscan Health Care Crossing Borders Inc. (FHCCBI) carried out a 10-day mission in the Philippines, reaching 301 children and 170 families across Capiz and Aklan. Under the compassionate leadership of Fr. Ben, Bro. Nestor, Fr. Daniel, and Fr. Reycel Centino, the mission offered more than material aid—it brought spiritual connection and joy.

The friars distributed vital supplies like school materials, medical kits, and food. They also offered therapy sessions, dental education, and catechism, meeting both practical and spiritual needs. Together with the communities, they shared moments of joy through parlor games, singing, dancing, and shared meals that became celebrations of togetherness.

The impact was deeply felt, with each community expressing overwhelming gratitude.
