Eight Homes for the Poor in India

So many people across the world are in need of food, shelter, and God’s peace.

We may feel that the world’s problems are too big to tackle, but our treasure can actually go a very long way.

Did you know that in India, it takes just $7,500 to build an entire home with a bathroom and enclosed living spaces?

Our Franciscan friars are responding to families that are living in unsafe, fragile conditions. Under the guidance of Father Rajasekhar Gopu, OFM, eight vulnerable families have been identified for new homes.

A home built with care, dignity, and your generosity.

Will you join us in building these homes?

  • With a gift of $100, you help provide bricks, cement, or other essential materials used to build a family’s home.
  • Your $250 gift helps cover labor costs so skilled workers can safely construct walls and roofs.
  • A gift of $500 helps provide doors, windows, and other features that make a home secure and weather-resistant.
  • When you give $1,000, you help furnish a home with critical elements such as electrical connections, plumbing, or a finished floor.

These homes will serve elderly individuals, widows, and families living without basic safety or sanitation. Built with durable materials, each home will provide long-term security and stability. Your generous participation in our India Housing Appeal will restore lives and build a future that once felt out of reach.

A new home for the elderly, the young, and generations yet to come.

Homes like this put families at constant risk.

The Impact of a Place to Call Home

Many people in India are living in makeshift dwellings no bigger than 450 square feet. These shelters have only one room to sleep, cook, and live in, and no indoor plumbing or running water for a bathroom.

These small, dilapidated structures are not a secure place to rest. The walls are unsafe and offer little protection from heavy, often destructive, seasonal rains. But these dwellings are all they have.

For India’s poor, a regular income is uncertain. Many people, even the elderly, are forced to work for food instead of wages, just to survive. Without a source of income, a home is not a possibility.

A new home would be more than four solid walls and a stable roof. It would change everything for a family in India. A new home would restore hope and dignity and allow them to live in peace instead of constant uncertainty and fear.

You can help make a safe, new home possible.

You Are Building Something Beautiful

Your generosity will truly work miracles. With the funds to build a home, the poor in India can live in peace and comfort as they care for children and elderly family members.

At the heart of this project is one simple hope: to give the poor a place where they can feel safe and loved.

Thank you for standing with Franciscan missionaries around the world. You restore safety, dignity, and hope to some of the poorest yet most deserving families.

You and your loved ones are prayed for and kept in our hearts during Masses offered by Franciscan missionary priests around the world.

May God bless you for helping these families experience the life-changing gift of a home.

With gratitude and peace,

Brother Andrew Brophy, OFM
