The Margil School in Aguacalientes, Mexico, is a Catholic Franciscan institute providing a comprehensive humanist education for children from preschool through high school. The 80-year-old school is staffed by Franciscan friars who teach the children the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi, and the Franciscan charism.
Upholding the school’s mission — to provide all students with suitable, well-equipped classrooms that support their human, Christian, and Franciscan formation — had become increasingly challenging for the second and third grades of the primary school due to overcrowded conditions and deteriorating classrooms.
New Construction Grows Both Space and Spirit
Over the years, many renovations have taken place, but one major project — the finishing of the second floor — was started 15 years ago and remained incomplete. This included plans for additional classrooms and bathrooms that were never fully realized.
Thanks to this building project spearheaded by the friars, the second floor is now complete, adding 225 square meters of safe, functional space where students can focus on their studies.
The extension includes:
- Two expanded, standard-sized classrooms
- Separate restroom facilities for girls and boys
- A designated maintenance area
- Improved circulation pathways

Although student enrollment is expected to continue increasing, the monthly tuition fees will be sufficient to cover the costs of hiring additional teachers and maintaining the new facilities.
